Crisp, clean, uncluttered lines and less adornment generally characterize
the Contemporary Alpine home. Innovative use of natural elements,
non-traditional materials and dramatic interior volumes can also
set this style apart from others.
As with all Thunderbird Creek architecture, regional
materials are showcased and structural elements such as posts, beams
and support brackets are expressed. Strong rooflines and picturesque
massing similar to Coastal Mountain styles are typical, often differentiated
by
glue-laminated timbers, paralam structural components, exposed fittings
and fasteners, or even exposed steel.
Outer wall surfaces tend to be wood and glass, or
glass and ledgestone set in horizontal courses.
To optimize light and sightlines, a key feature of
the Contemporary Alpine home is over-sized view windows, sliding
window interior walls and even full-glass garage doors.
