A hybrid design incorporating elements of Craftsman, European Alpine
and American Adirondack Camp styles, Coastal Mountain architecture
is often recreated in national parks and rustic lodges.
Featuring wood and stone materials, vertical board
and batten or wide horizontal siding is typical, as are stained
wall shingles. Stone is usually set as random rubble to highlight
a rustic appearance and strong rooflines of 6 in 12 or even greater
pitch combined with gabled ends and picturesque massing emulate
mountain surrounds.
Adornments include exposed beam ends, heavy wood trusses,
wood railing and substantial fascia boards and trims.
Window treatments tend to be casement or double hung
set individually into walls, with fairly wide trim, a balanced sash
and often divided lights. Front doors are typically barn-style plank
designs as found in rural hillside settings.
